The new Manuela Solís Hospital is located in the former Military Hospital in Quart de Poblet-Mislata. The extension and refurbishment of the site will house the new chronic, long-stay and mental health hospital.
The building, constructed in 1952, corresponds to a typical hospital typology of pavilions, where each of the different functional units or services was located in a different pavilion or building, all of them connected by a gallery.
The proposal respects the configuration of the existing building as much as possible, as well as its aesthetic quality in the facades and other elements, recovering the internal use of the circulations and buildings of the site. In this way, the center of gravity of the healthcare activity will no longer be based on the buildings that are currently in operation, but on the whole complex.
A new logistics building, with a new language that clearly identifies the extension, will be in line with the new communication cores, giving architectural unity to the intervention.
A very important point of the proposal is the recovery of the courtyards between buildings for use by patients, visitors and staff. The treatment and arrival of natural light to the various services, and especially to those spaces of relationship between patients and health personnel is an element of utmost importance in a building typology like this one.
