The new heliport on the roof of the Traumatology and Burnt patients Building at Vall d’Hebron Hospital improves and facilitates the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS).

For this purpose, an elevated platform sized for landing and take-off of the most modern medical helicopters is available at the roof level of the Traumatology/Burns building.
This solution makes it possible to reduce the maneuvering and the number of transfers of patients arriving at the hospital by helicopter.

The proposal consists of a new independent, modular and compact metal tower, on which the new helisurface is located, connected by a new walkway to the renovated elevator core of the existing building.
This is an economical and efficient model that does not affect the structure or the care activity of the building to be maintained.

A new emergency staircase within the rectangular support structure of the new heliport ensures and improves the safety and fire evacuation of the trauma building.

The new helideck is a ventilated platform made of aluminum profiles on a steel structure.
This solution proves to be a cost-effective alternative, providing great lightness, long operating life and low maintenance costs.

The platform is 4.30 m above the roof of the Traumatology building, a separation that configures the “ventilated platform” solution, guaranteeing the absence of turbulence on the heliport surface.
This ensures maximum operability and safety in aeronautical operations, an aspect much appreciated by the pilots of the EMS service.
