CASA SOLO has won the tender for the refurbishment of the municipal geriatric home of Ciutadella de Menorca. For the development of the project and the management of the works will have the collaboration of the architect Joan-Enric Vilardell Santacana, based on the island.
The purpose of the project is the interior renovation and expansion of the existing municipal geriatric building, a comprehensive renovation that will affect the entire building, in order to adapt it to current requirements. Currently, the building has 60 geriatric places, and after the refurbishment, it will have 86 fully adapted places.

It is a building constructed on the site of the former convent of Sant Antoni in 1894, designed by Josep Moll i Vidal. The main facade is inspired by the classical style, with a modulation and proportion of holes of vertical and horizontal rhythms. The building was completely restored in 1987 and, in 1991, its main façade was included in the inventory of protection of the historical heritage of the Ciutadella City Council.
The building consists of three floors with a central courtyard and three vertical circulation cores with elevator and stairs in each of them, preferably -but not exclusively- for residents and visitors, working staff and supplies. Circulation runs through the interior of the building, parallel to the facades, with uses distributed on both sides.
The proposal also contemplates the design and urbanization of the Sant Antoni square and the backyard as a therapeutic garden for the residents. The project will be developed with criteria of age-friendly design, accessibility and person-centered design.
