Place: Barcelona, Spain Conclusion: 1990 Surface: 25.975 sqm
The Barcelona offices and print shops producing the Catalonia and Balearic Islands edition of the newspaper El País have been located in the Zona Franca since 1982.
The newspaper decided it needed to expand its facilities to accommodate new technologies in printing and dispatch. The main difficulty the project faced was the conversion of a 7 metre-high bay topped with saw-tooth skylights into a 14 metre-high bay to allow the installation of double-height rotary presses. Production was never interrupted during the works. Design and construction supervision were carried out in cooperation with BOD Arquitectura e Ingeniería, S.A.
