Recently, the obstetrics plant of the maternal and new-born tower of the Hospital Universitat Germans Trias i Pujol (Can Ruti) has been inaugurated.
It is a remodelling project of the 5th floor of the hospital, with a surface of action of 1424m², in which it is proposed to remodel different services located in the hospital, since the functional structure and the current distribution of the spaces do not respond to the needs and future assistance requirements.
The structure and layout of the pre-existing rooms corresponded to a typical scheme of maternity hospitalization units at the time of construction of the building, consisting of modules of two double rooms with an intermediate space between them for the care of babies and nursing.
Thus, in the proposed remodelling of the maternal and new-born tower of the Hospital Universitat Germans Trias i Pujol (Can Ruti) the existing structure is incorporated to current needs, creating a battery of bathrooms for the rooms, thus forming modules of two rooms (double or single) with bathrooms in the middle.
This scheme allows creating a clean, diaphanous and functional space inside the room, with appropriate measures and where all the bathrooms are adapted. It is a hospital design focused on people, both patients and workers, which provides many favourable factors for both. These aspects are crucial in all the hospital services, but they take on maximum importance in a unit as sensitive as that intended for mothers and new-borns.
The necessary technical spaces are located in the block of central supports, such as the nursing control that assumes the central position, the care room, the lactation room, the preparation space for baby bottles and baby care, the assisted bath, the clean area and the office. There are also workspaces for staff and logistic support and storage.
The project also takes special care with the choice of materials, the rational simplification of circulations, the orientation and visuals of the spaces, the entrance of natural light or the quality of the air, among others. These factors contribute to greater comfort for all hospital users, optimizing work, power and performance.
From CASA SOLO we are very satisfied with the completion of this work to reform the maternal and new-born tower of the Hospital Universitat Germans Trias i Pujol (Can Ruti) and we hope that it will have a positive impact on the quality of life of all hospital users.
