Last November the resolution of the contest for the implementation of the new heliport at Vall d’Hebron Hospital was published, specifically on the cover of the Traumatology area, after which CASA SOLO ARQUITECTOS we were the winning team.
The proposal consists of an independent, modular and compact piece. It is an economic and efficient model that does not affect the structure or the care activity of the existing Traumatology building and that, in addition, it will allow to have an exact control of the cost and the execution times of the work.
The design and construction of a new heliport at Hospital Vall d’Hebron is thought in order to facilitate the medical emergency service with helicopter (HEMS). For this, a raised platform will be available, sized for the landing and take-off of the most modern medical helicopters.
The proposed solution is a heliport built with a ventilated platform of aluminum profiles on a steel structure. This solution is revealed as a cost-effective alternative, providing a great lightness at the same time as a long operating life of the whole and low maintenance cost. In addition, this solution would allow the future displacement of the heliport to another point of the hospital.
The platform will be elevated 4.85m above the roof of the Traumatology building, a separation that configures the “ventilated platform” solution, guaranteeing the absence of turbulence on the surface of the heliport. In this way, a maximum operativeness and safety in the aeronautical operation is achieved, an aspect very appreciated by the pilots of the SEM service.
The new heliport at Vall d’Hebron Hospital will be formed by a circular plant of 20m diameter on a square base. It will have a main entrance in ramp for the use of bunk beds and another secondary one in the form of a staircase. This second one guarantees and improves the safety and fire evacuation of the building, since it is connected by walkways both to the roof and to each level of the existing volume.
From CASA SOLO we are very satisfied to have been selected as the winning team of this contest for the implementation of the new heliport at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, one of the most outstanding hospitals in the city of Barcelona.
As always, we continue to work in the hospital architecture sector, betting on the improvement of existing health centers as well as the design and construction of the hospitals of the future.
